“Send a net – save a life.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As you busy yourself with the starting up of programs and regular schedules that begin again in the fall, I pray that you will be uplifted, nourished and blessed by all the work and energy that you have put into opening the church for these times.

In the midst of that, Advent planning could be just around the corner.  Each year, we have a Bishop’s Advent Offering that you can choose to participate in with your congregation or not.  This year, please prayerfully consider being a part of our campaign to raise monies for the “NothingButNets” project. bulletin insert  bulletin insert black&white

“NothingButNets” is a global grassroots campaign designed to prevent malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa.  This campaign has brought together the people of the United Methodist Church, along with Sports Illustrated, NBA Cares, the United Nations Foundation and several other groups, seeking to raise funds to purchase bed nets to end malaria.  The cost is only $10 for each net.

Though there are additional ways to prevent malaria, Bed nets, vaccinations, insecticide spraying and water treatment are important tools.  Bed nets work in two ways:  They stop mosquitoes from biting during the night and spreading the disease, and the insecticide on the net kills mosquitoes when they land on it.  The children of Africa need this help desperately to stop the spread of the disease.

Should you and your congregation decide to participate in this endeavor, please make checks payable to your conference treasurer and indicate on the memo line:  “Bishop’s Advent Offering”.  Your gifts and prayers will be greatly appreciated.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Jonathan D. Keaton
