Sewing For Haiti
What started out to be just a few women getting together turned into almost 20 women and teens gathering to sew hospital outfits for the children at Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti. Each child is given an outfit when they're admitted and allowed to keep it when they're discharged. The outfits consist of one or two pieces depending on the size of the child. A total of 49 pieces were finished on Saturday, but many more were taken home to be completed. Grace Children's Hospital was damaged in the earthquake and the children were being treated in the courtyard, making the need for clean clothing even greater. Members of the Saint Joseph First United Methodist Church will be attending a Mini-Mission trip at the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Illinois, where the gowns will be packed with other relief items to be sent all around the world and specifically to Haiti. All materials used were donated. Another sewing day is being scheduled. For more information, please contact the church, 983-3929, or stjoefumc2@juno.com.
